Jake has been a Certified Insurance Counselor since 1983 in the Tama-Toledo area with Dirks & Jacobson Insurance and Independent Insurance Services. He has a degree in Business and Mathematics from Simpson College. He formerly taught mathematics at the high school level along with coaching basketball and golf.

Jake is currently President of the Tama-Toledo Aquatic Center and the South Tama County Rec Trail. Other community activities Jake has or is currently participating in include, United Way and  Past-Presidency of all the following: Kiwanis, Tama-Toledo Chamber of Commerce, South Tama Booster Club, American Heart Association, Tama County Board of Realtors and Tama-Toledo Country Club.
